About Rebecca Finnoff

Hi, I’m Rebecca

I believe that each of us contains innate wisdom—an “essential Self” that holds the key to stepping into our greatness. My role as a therapist is to help you unlock that potential to discover your wisdom, resilience, and resources for healing.

Working together, we can put you back into the driver’s seat of your life.

My Path To Mental Health Counseling

Like many therapists, my own healing journey put me on this career path. When I initially enrolled at Naropa University, I thought I would specialize in Art Therapy, and during my first year, I took several movement classes. Through these classes, I discovered—from the inside out—the healing power of our bodies.

As I learned more about the neuroscience of movement, I better understood trauma and its effect on my life personally, switching my focus from art to dance/movement and Somatic (body-based) Psychotherapy. Through movement, mindfulness, and body awareness practices, I was able to come back into my body and locate its innate strengths and capacity for healing. This process inspired me to help others who have experienced trauma find their way home to their bodies and inner power.

Working To Heal Core Traumas

My therapeutic practice is deeply informed by trauma, which means I specifically focus on how the body, mind, and spirit carry emotional wounds. I view our minds and bodies as woven together—when addressed as one, the healing process can unfold.

Rather than working from a surface-level or one-size-fits-all counseling approach, I use therapies that deactivate trauma inside the nervous system, working from the ground up. Methods like Somatic Psychotherapy, Brainspotting, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) are particularly useful for redirecting trauma out of the nervous system and helping to relieve the physical, emotional, and mental discomfort perpetuated by stored trauma.

I am also an Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapist, which means that I incorporate parts work into counseling. I believe that each part of us is valuable and worthy of love, and IFS facilitates self-compassion in a way that allows my clients to better understand their inherent strengths and worthiness.

A Gentle, Relatable Approach That Honors Your Strengths And Experiences

I’ve been told that I have a loving presence that radiates warmth and compassion. I believe my superpower is helping clients to locate and connect with their greatness so that it can shine through. The best version of each one of us exists somewhere inside, and therapy is a really useful way to access that Self. Furthermore, IFS therapists operate from the premise that we are only able to facilitate the healing process while centered in our essential selves. Having done a deep dive into my own healing process has given me the ability to work with my parts so that I’m centered in my essential Self while working with others, exponentially increasing the efficacy of my work.

Working from a trauma-informed lens, I help clients struggling with a wide range of challenges, from mental health obstacles to relational difficulties to addiction to performance enhancement. Though I primarily work with adults now, I have a long history in child and family therapy, particularly in using Brainspotting techniques with kids. And because I am a mom myself, I tend to work well with parents, especially mothers who have suffered a traumatic birth.

In addition, elements of spirituality, mindfulness, and shamanic practices are woven into my practice. Inspired by the transformative effects of psychedelic medicines, I offer Psychedelic Therapy as an alternative healing approach for clients who are interested. This approach facilitates newfound enlightenment and relief for those looking to enhance spiritual awareness and/or combat treatment-resistant mental health challenges.

Regardless of who I am working with or which therapeutic technique I use, I aim to relate to my clients in a meaningful and authentic way. My own trauma history dates back to childhood, and I’ve spent most of my adult life working to build resilience and stress management skills. I know what it’s like to feel anxious, overwhelmed, and alone, so I want my clients to know the deep, healing support that I longed for during difficult times.

Ongoing And Dedicated Self-Improvement Beyond The Therapy Space

As a spiritual person with a dedicated mindfulness practice, meditation, creation, movement, and nature are essential elements of my well-being. I meditate daily, practice Kundalini yoga, and often perform Kirtan, which is a sacred musical tradition from India. I enjoy spending time in the beautiful surroundings of Boulder, where I often participate in contemplative hiking and camping.

But more than anything, being a mother is my most important role. I view motherhood as a spiritual journey, requiring ongoing attention and spiritual alignment. Energy and movement practices continue to be essential to the way I live my life, allowing me to transform my consciousness, level vibrational frequencies, and incorporate this work into my healing practice.
